Norwegian Cruise Line choose JRT to supply talent for new ship launch

JR Talent organise Norwegian Cruise Line to create the Escape Squad, joining forces with celebrities Helen Skelton, and Louie Spence to launch Norwegian Escape to the UK in Southampton..
Daily Mail Review: Zip wires, a basketball court and the fastest water slides at sea: Norwegian Cruise Line reveals the newest addition to its fleet
  • Norwegian Escape is newest member to 14-strong fleet owned by the line
  • Includes tried and tested favourites as well as new many new attractions
  • Ship features two narrow planks to walk out, rope course and an aqua park

With her images of a giant, open-jawed marlin in hot pursuit of flying fish on the prow, and sea turtles, manta rays, shark whales and colourful butterfly fish along the ship’s 1,000ft hull, the shiny new Norwegian Escape brightened up rainy Southampton when it dropped by a few days ago.

The latest addition to Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet of 14 ships was on her way from the German shipyard where she was built to her permanent home port of Miami, where she is due to be christened tomorrow.

I took a one-night jaunt into the blustery English Channel to discover what is in store for passengers joining Escape for sun-drenched, seven-night Caribbean cruises this winter.

Cruise fans familiar with her sister ships Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway will find tried and tested favourites, but also lots of new eating and drinking venues, shows and attractions for children.

There are even two narrow planks to walk out over the ship’s side, 168ft above the waves.

On Escape’s ropes course, guests including BBC presenter Helen Skelton and dancer Louie Spence scrambled around red and grey girders on nets and wobbly bridges above the basketball court, mini-golf course and running track, and dangled from zip wires over the Solent.

From the course I also got a close-up view of the huge, twisting giant tubes of the ship’s Aqua Park, which boasts the fastest water slides at sea. Small children have their own low-rise ropes course and gentler Aqua Park.

Down on Deck 5, Guppies is a new creche for infants aged from six months upwards. It has been added to the Splash Academy children’s clubs that cater for youngsters aged three to 17. Around the three-deck-high atrium I found a stylish wine bar, The Cellars, from the Mondavi family of California’s Napa Valley, and Tobacco Road, a re-creation of Miami’s oldest bar and a place to drop in for a tot of rum.

With too many speciality restaurants and bars to attempt to sample on a short voyage, I managed to down a pint of La Rubia Blonde, a refreshing ale from Florida, one of 74 different craft and international beers offered in the District Brew House, located near my cabin on Deck 8, before having dinner at Food Republic. I chose my ‘world food’ dishes via an iPad.

Then it was showtime. In the large theatre, with drinks served at our seats, we were treated to a version of the hit musical Million Dollar Quartet, a Broadway show based on a famed recording session that brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins in Memphis in 1956.

Had we been in the Caribbean, wafted by warm breezes, we’d have headed up to Deck 17 to dance the night away in Spice H2O nightclub under a star-scattered sky.

This is a ship to be enjoyed to its fullest in tropical climes.
